The 2012 Carl Landry basketball camp in West Lafayette tipped off today at West Lafayette High School. Landry spoke to the campers about the game of basketball and the importance of a good education.

“Just having the opportunity to come back where everything pretty much started for me, as far as my success on the basketball court and give back to the community is great,” said Carl Landry.

Since he last played at Purdue, when he led the Boilermakers to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2007, Carl Landry has gone to great efforts to come back to the Lafayette-West Lafayette area and donate a significant amount of his time with kids during his basketball camp.

“God has blessed me with the ability to, you know, play at a high level. And, you know, I just can't keep it to myself. I've got to give back and show, you know, the things that I've learned to kids. And what better place to do it than West Lafayette, Indiana,” said Landry.

Landry is continuing his generous ways by hosting his annual Carl Landry Basketball Camp at West Lafayette High School. Landry, who is currently a free agent after competing his fifth season in the NBA this past April, has played for the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, and New Orleans Hornets during his N-B-A career.

Once again, a number of very enthusiastic young basketball players turned out for Landry's camp, which runs through Saturday.

“Some of these kids have been coming to the camp since, you know, the first year I had it. And getting a chance to see them improve every year and interacting with them. And them coming back and telling me 'OK, yeah, I'm getting better and, you know, I'm playing varsity now or, you know, I'm playing on the seventh grade team, it definitely makes me feel really good,” said Landry.

The core mission of the Carl Landry Basketball Camp is to provide the foundation for young children to use basketball as a vehicle to achieve greatness.

Carl Landry and his camp staff provide campers the basic basketball fundamentals through organized skill training methods used in high level basketball programs nationwide.

The overall goal is to give children the opportunity to interact with positive role models while learning the skills to become a better basketball player.
