Timberwolves second-round draft pick Robbie Hummel has signed a one-year contract to play this season with Obradoiro CAB in Santiago, Spain.

Hummel, a 6-foot-8 forward who averaged 16.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game at Purdue last season, was drafted 58th overall by Wolves president of basketball operations David Kahn this summer.

"It's something we worked on in concert with the Timberwolves," Hummel's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Thursday, Aug. 9. "David Kahn and I talked about it extensively, and we found a really good opportunity for him overseas. He'll go over there this year, and he'll definitely be back with T-Wolves next year."

Hummel, 23, averaged just 3.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game with the Wolves' summer league team in Las Vegas.

Bartelstein said numerous forwards were competing for playing time in Las Vegas, which limited Hummel's stats. Bartelstein and Kahn agreed a season in Europe would benefit Hummel.

Hummel posted on his Twitter account @RobbieHummel: "Thanks to everyone for the congrats! Can't wait to play for @OBRADOIROCAB... I'm looking forward to getting over to Spain to get to work!"

Hummel's season in Spain "makes sense," Bartelstein said, because "he'll get a chance to play major minutes over there, which will be great for him."

Bartelstein said Hummel, who suffered two torn anterior cruciate ligaments at Purdue, is 100 percent healthy.
