Tyler Lydon's goal: 'Prove I belong' in NBA

Aug 09, 2017 | by Stephen Haynes, Poughkeepsie Journal

Tyler Lydon signed his first professional basketball contract last month, a deal with the Denver Nuggets that will pay the Elizaville native what he described as “life-changing money.”

But, despite the whirlwind of NBA experiences — some highs and some lows — and overnight celebrity that have filled his recent weeks, the Pine Plains product is still driving his 2013 truck.

"I've never been a guy that likes expensive things," Lydon said with a chuckle. "I'm a country boy at heart. Plus I’m too big for a sports car anyway."

Indeed, at 6-foot-9 it would be challenge attempting to squeeze into a flashy coupe. So his Ford F-150 is an ideal fit. Literally.

But, more importantly, that resistance to splurging is indicative of Lydon staying true to his promises to remain grounded. There haven’t been any lavish gifts or exorbitant purchases. For now, he insists, his focus is "keeping my head down" and working ensure his rookie season is productive.
